A catch-and-release fly fishing charter service founded on a love for the Bay Islands and the fishery they hold.
Pescado Roatán was founded on a simple premise: there is no better place to fly fish in the Caribbean than the Bay Islands of Honduras, and more anglers deserve to experience it. We are a catch-and-release fly fishing and sport fishing charter service based on Roatan, offering guided charters on the flats, offshore, and to the remote islands of Guanaja and Cayos Cochinos.
The founders discovered Roatan the way many anglers do — chasing word-of-mouth rumors about a Caribbean destination with world-class bonefish and permit, minimal fishing pressure, and the kind of natural beauty that makes the fishing almost secondary. When they finally got here, they didn't leave. The combination of the fishery, the island, and the people of the Bay Islands proved impossible to walk away from.
Pescado Roatán grew out of years of learning these waters intimately — the specific flats that hold permit on a certain tide, the reef edges that attract wahoo in season, the logistics of getting anglers to Guanaja and back with enough time to make a proper day of the bonefish. We built relationships with the best deep sea captains on the island and with the marine park authorities who protect the reef.
Roatan is the largest of Honduras' Bay Islands, situated in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean roughly 40 miles north of the mainland. It is surrounded by the world's second largest barrier reef, which creates an astonishing variety of habitat — miles of protected shallow flats on the leeward side, dramatic wall diving on the windward reef edge, and rich offshore grounds just minutes beyond the reef break.
On the flats, every fish goes back. No exceptions. We are proud supporters of the Roatan Marine Park and the Mesoamerican Reef conservation work supported by organizations like World Wildlife Fund's Mesoamerican Reef program. Sustainable fishing is the only fishing that makes sense on a reef this important.
You'll see it spelled both ways — Roatán (with an accent, the Spanish form) and Roatan (the anglicized version commonly used by airlines and tourism sites). Both refer to the same island. Locals and official Honduran government documents use Roatán; travelers and travel agencies typically drop the accent. We use both interchangeably.
